I'll be posting info and pictures of animals who desperately need a home. It's a thread to advertise animals on "death row" and make contacts for foster homes. Hopefully there will be some out there who has one to give them.

PLEASE COME TO OUR SHELTER RIGHT AWAY AND ADOPT ME! IT'S FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED, AND YOU CAN'T PUT HOLDS ON PETS OVER THE PHONE! DON'T FORGET TO BRING PROOF OF YOUR HOME OWNERSHIP OR PERMISSION TO ADOPT FROM LANDLORD!

"Hi. I'm Trevi -- also known as Dog #A907209. I am listed as a male, brown Miniature Schnauzer mix of unknown age. I've been here since October 17, and I want a forever family!! Is that you?

Won't you please save my life and adopt me today?"

HURRY!!! Time is VERY limited for pets at our shelter! Sadly, our shelter is forced to euthanize pets because there are too many pets and not enough homes for them!! We desperately need people to spay/neuter their pets and to stop surrendering pets!

Would you please be an Animal Ambassador and help us spread the word about responsible pet ownership?

This wonderful pet is located at the Miami-Dade Animal Services Department at 7401 Northwest 74 Street, Medley, FL 33166. COMMITMENT NUMBER A907209.

Are you the wonderful angel who is going to change the world for this darling?

AVAILABILITY of these animals changes CONSTANTLY, so you have to come to the shelter right away! Remember to bring proof of home ownership (mortgage receipt will work) or a letter from your Landlord that states that you're able to have pets where you live!

***************************

To adopt a pet from our shelter, simply go to the facility and walk through the kennels.

You MUST come to the facility in person to ask about availability, to place a hold on a pet, or to adopt!!

* * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Thank you for being a responsible pet owner and always keeping identification on your pet, keeping a current color photo on hand (in case your pet is lost), keeping your pet vaccinated, and spreading the word about the importance of spaying/neutering your pet!!!

* * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Remember, the shelter is located at 7401 Northwest 74 Street in Medley (unincorporated Miami), FL.

Come to the shelter and make a life-changing difference -- NOW!

This pet is up to date with routine shots.

Collie / Lab Mix - Litter of 8 puppies. No calls on these. Time is running OUT. Call to TAG ASAP.
Assorted colors - 7 males / 1 female - 2-3 months old.

China Pitt Bull mix needs rescue. Along with Brandy, she will be one of the first to go due to the amount of animals currently housed at the shelter. 1 year old - Super sweet, docile and submissive. Shy but can be coaxed out by one then solicits love from a crowd. Don't know how she is with other dogs but noted she nosed into the puppy pen and attempted to lovingly lick the babies. Loves to have a long belly rub. Call to TAG ASAP.

Blue Heeler Pups - 2 boys. 2-3 months old. Time is running OUT.
Call to TAG ASAP.

PHOTO: The Outlaws - These three (adult Yellow lab (M) and 5-6 month Yellow lab (F) and husky mix -confirming gender-) were impounded in a stolen car situation. We have no idea if anyone will ever come forward and claim them. Healthy and friendly dogs with Kentucky tags on collar now located in a far Northeast Texas pound.

PHOTO: Bundle of Pups - I believe there are 7 or 8 - 2 months old - mixed gender - one litter - police officer found in busy street darting in and out of traffic -more details forthcoming on these babies.

Adult, female Yellow Lab and her newborn pups. We thought the person who dropped this dog and babes up was coming back for her after he discovered we were not a shelter that offered free medical care; however, he never showed up. Originally, the man stated that the mama was not his and that he thought there were at least two more pups inside her but that she had more than likely been hit by a car, which prevented her from continuing giving birth. Shelter director Theri Brown noted that if Mama was hit by a car or in another type of accident, there is no visible evidence of it. Also, she is no longer excreting any afterbirth and seems to be quite comfortable nursing the pups. We need an emergency rescue on this group ASAP.
Contact info for Mount Pleasant Animal Shelter is below.

8 month old Yellow Lab mix Brandy arrived at the shelter as an anonymous, overnight dump. She is loving and submissive when coaxed but somewhat shy about human contact. In the photo below, you will note that this young ladies right hind teeth are missing and the canine tooth possible chipped off. While we would like to say this resulted from her biting down on something extremely hard, the reality is it is quite probably someone hit her in the mouth with a bat or golf club --enough to knock out her teeth, causing her great distress, pain, and a diminished sense of trust in the human race. As Brandy patiently allowed us to photograph her, the stress of the situation caused her to urinate. Brandy is young and sweet as any puppy blossoming into adulthood would be or should be. Unfortunately, she has been victimized. We believe that given a chance at a new and fruitful life with a kind, patient, and understanding adult owner, Brandy would make a wonderful lifetime companion. She needs a new beginning with a loving family that can provide her a home filled with warmth and affection. If you are part of an adult home and can dedicate yourself to one dog, Brandy's your girl!
Mount Pleasant Animal Control and Protection(far Northeast Texas) is a kill shelter that has a BUNCH of puppies as well as medium to large adoptable dogs that will hit the euth line very quickly due to the depressingly high rate of overnight dumps and owner-sign overs we have received this week (shelter comfortably houses 13 dogs at a time - average monthly receipt is 200-300 --this week will probably make Oct part of the high end of this average. I am doing what I can to get photos taken and published but have had some serious timing conflicts in the past few days. The majority of these dogs will be safe through Monday morning; however, we have two SCRUFFIES right now on tomorrow morning's euth list and one other sweet girl that will go down Monday morning as well. Please review these three and HELP tag for rescue if you can. When you call, please ask shelter director Theri Brown for more details on the others that are at risk for euthing beginning Monday due to the shelter overcrowding. I will get photos and more details as soon as I possibly can.....

If you can rescue, please leave a voice mail or e-mail for Theri Brown before 8AM Friday - Oct 20 so the dogs can be tagged and preserved while transport arrangements are being made. </br>

FOSTER NEEDED BADLY FOR THIS LADY AND BABY.PLEASE HELP!

''I honestly don't know. Sarcoptic is what we mainly deal with but the fact that
she looks so God-awful but her pups look healthy, makes me think maybe it's
demodectic brought on by her poor condition and trying to nurse all those pups.
I've got the shelter staff giving her puppy food and as much as she'll eat.

If anyone could send us some Revolution (for a 40-50 lb dog) that would be
wonderful. I can't get anybody to prescribe any because she hasn't be HW tested.
It won't kill a dog with HWs, in fact they use it to kill microfilaria
pre-treatment, but they still won't give it to me. I don't want to dip her with it being so cold and with her nursing and I'm afraid to give her massive doses
of oral ivermectin (the best treatment for demodex) in case she does have HWs.
And of course I have no way to get either a HW test or a skin scrape done. We SO need a vet that will work with us down there!!!!!!

What we need most, of course, is a foster home, but I don't think that's very likely. ''

Website to see this mom and babies. Please consider helping her .

''Hi all,

I met these pups today at Harbor shelter...so sweet and gorgeous. They are all red listed, and can be killed at any moment...PLEASE, if you have room for a beautiful family, give these poor babies and their mama a shot at life. They are too wonderful to have their life ended this way.

''Hi Christina,
These are the photos we talked about earlier. I have sent their picutres out several times, and other rescue friends have been trying to network her, and no luck so far.

Mama gave birth to the pups in some kind of junk yard, and was brought in by an officer as a stray. She and her puppies did come down with URI a few weeks ago, but they have fully recovered. The pups are around 4weeks old, and mama is around 4 yrs. She is so sweet, and lets us handle her and the babies.

If you would like to see individual pictures of the pups please check out our city website. I didn't want to send you 8 huge pictures. Please call me if you can find someone.

Thanks,
Lauren''

The babies: http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=7222181

Notes: These babies are still 6 weeks old. There are males and females. The mother is all white with blue eyes. The father is a Blue Nose. We are accepting adoption applications which can be downloaded from our homepage.

Strays from the Heights / Dog Adoption Guidelines

We are a small rescue group and do not have a shelter, but house our dogs and cats in several foster homes. We show our rescued animals by appointment only.

If you are interested in adopting a dog from Strays from the Heights (SFTH), there is a process you will need to go through.

Please think carefully about the time you have available to devote your new friend and be ready to adopt for a lifetime. While we do stand ready to rehome a dog you adopt from us if it doesn't work out as well as expected, it is best for the dogs to find their permanent homes right away, and it is our goal to make good matches the first time around.

The first step is for you to submit a completed adoption application (attached) to this e-mail address to see if the dog might be a match with your household. We do not operate on a "first come first serve" basis but evaluate all applicants and decide what is best for the dogs we rescue. This is not meant to discourage you in any way, but simply to be clear that we must make the tough decisions about where our dogs go, and we sometimes have to turn down applicants. We must weigh a variety of factors, such as lifestyle, type of housing, number of children in the home and ages, other pets, to determine which placements are appropriate. Prior to finalizing the adoption, a home visit will be required so we can see where the dog would be living and get better acquainted with you.

Thanks for considering a rescued dog!

(Please note: I am Lovely's foster. This is nothing of Lovely's doing. She is a WONDERFUL dog. There is a 2-dog policy where I live; a neighbor of mine snitched and now I'm in deep dog doo-doo if we don't find her another foster quickly. Serious, responsible inquiries only!

''Garrett's Situation is very critical so if anyone knows anyone who is either looking to adopt him or atleast provide a temporary safe haven for him please contact us. He is such a beautiful good boy and is now desperate so if you can help then now is the time!''

''Hello, my name is Garrett, and I'm so happy to meet you!

I am a young boy approximately 1.5 to 2 yrs old and weigh about 45 lbs (I'm underweight so I still need to gain around 5-7 lbs). I am a handsome guy with a beautiful head and cropped ears and a gorgeous brindle coat.

My situation is urgent as if I cannot find a foster or forever home, I will be euthanized. PLEASE HELP ME BEFORE IT"S TOO LATE ~ call Georganne at 847 336-9914.

I'm such a sweet boy and cannot understand why I was found tied in a backyard of an abandoned house in the pouring down rain on what was probably the heaviest thickest chain that my rescuers had ever seen before. If that's not bad enough, I also had a huge padlock around my neck that was the size of a softball and that is no exaggeration. I had no shelter from the rain so I had dig myself a hole in the mud and was curled up in it to try and keep myself warm.

I love to play with toys and know how to sit and shake on command. I LOVE people!!!

All I need now is my very own home ~ and I will not live in a backyard again with any chains or padlocks....only a fluffy bed please Smile

Love, Garrett''

"CASPER" was found wandering a busy highway and saved from certain death. He is a 4 month old American Pit Bull Mix with some liver colored spots on his beautiful white coat. He will be a Medium size dog. He has been wormed, up to date on shots, HOUSEBROKEN and will be neutered before adoption. He is very social and shows no signs of aggression with food or with toys. Kids wrestle with him all the time and he always submits to them. He's very affectionate and wishes he could be a lap dog. He does well on a leash and has been started on basic obedience training, he can sit, shake paw, and is getting better at down. He's being fostered around kids and dogs of all sizes, he loves being with the pack. He shows NO ALPHA TENDENCIES.

We require you have a fenced in yard and have home visit
before any adoption can be finalized.

Please read the interesting information below...
If nothing else it is some good info to keep in the back of your head next time you hear something negative about a Pit Bull.

ABOUT THE BREED: The American Canine Temperament Test Society lists this breed as having one of the most stable temperaments of any of the purebreds, right up there with Golden Retrievers. ( www.ATTS.org ) We like to say "To know them is to love them". Pit bulls are impressively loyal, bold and courageous animals. They are naturally clownish, alert and intelligent .. in other words, a whole lot of fun to have around! Many participate and excel in various dog sports and activities, including Obedience Trials, Search and Rescue work, Agility Trials, Flyball and Frisbee Competitions. Many pit bulls work as Certified Therapy Dogs in hospitals and nursing homes. Homes with children that know the breed continue to seek them out as their dog of choice. A favorite place of just about any well loved pit bull is in the lap of his adoring human or close by his side. (We have one in our rescue being trained as an assistance dog for a 7 year old boy) When well socialized and properly raised, they're the perfect breed to tolerate the rough and tumble play that kids can dish out. Pit bulls tend to be drawn to the joyful optimism of children and love to meet them with tails awaggin'!

While pit bulls are bred to be gushy, affectionate and all-loving with people, they can also be pushy, willful and even dominant. They'll happily run your household for you if you aren't ready to dish out firm guidelines. This means you'll need to be a fair, decisive handler. Obedience training is a must. Don't get a pit bull if you're a push-over! This friendship comes with a pricetag. You'll have to honor your dog's loyalty and devotion and be ready to commit LOTS of quality time to your pet for life. To banish your dog to the backyard or leave him alone for long periods of time for weeks on end can cause him to become depressed, and/or destructive. A pit bull should never be left unattended outside.

A BIT OF HISTORY - Helen Keller, Theodore Roosevelt, and the "Our Gang" Little Rascals all had APBTS. Also some of the most decorated war dogs have been APBT.

Thank you for reading this and please give this baby a chance!!!!
