Jury Duty
People who typically ignore the threat:
"unless you have a "reasonable excuse" you cant get out of it. punishment for not going is $500 dollar fine and possible contempt of court:"
Don't get summoned again. and get away with discarding it.
Typically these summons are sent by mail (which in some places is very unreliable). They for most cases can't prove you received the summons.
Some people just have a hard life and don't need to be bothered by this. On the other hand, you could be the one person that could sway a jury to
make the right decision on important topics such as tax evasion, etc.
It is hard to conceive of disliking the system and yet refusing a chance to have a voice on a jury. ON the other hand, people being so dumbed down, you might not get far. But I have always seen jury duty as a . . . duty I would not shun. I see it as giving justice a slim chance, a chance worth taking. If we who have brains don't use them to try to help in some small way, then we don't have much right to gripe.
But I also believe the so called "justice" system needs a complete overhaul but that is another far larger topic.
