Sex & Violence: Are They Survival Strategies That Work?

Species survival is ultimately the basic reason we human beings do what we do, and our 'reasons' are often unrecognized and instinctual.
Both violence and gender or sexual role playing are examples of these kinds of outdated survival strategies.
Yes, in the past, human groups functioned more smoothly when there was a clear delineation of roles.
Women took care of the young, and men made sure that there was enough to eat and good shelter.
The traits of violence and aggression were valued when resources were scarce and the man who was the most overtly aggressive was assured of the biggest share of food and gained better access to breeding females.
But both of these strategies have become maladaptive now. We are suffering from overpopulation.
Perhaps we need to develop new more adaptive strategies to take the place of aggression, violence and sex and gender strategies.
How do we do that? What would encourage the transition to better strategies? What might those strategies look like?
Also, are there environments even today where strategies like violence, and aggression and gender typing still work very well?
