Before you start please have a look around your news providers website to check for any restrictions/posting rules etc. If your are on newshosting you need to sign into your account (at the website) and activate posting before you start to upload. Also check a site like: http://www.binsearch.info// to see if your file has already been posted recently.

Things you will need:-

Quickpar
Winrar
Yenc Power-Post

Creating a Rar Archive
This is pretty simple to do. Just right click on the file(s) you want to share and select Add to Archive. You will be presented with a screen which looks similar to this :-

Now what you need to do set the Compression Method to [store] and type in a value into the Split to volumes , bytes box. Use the following as a guide to the values you should enter. *edit:Software such as games and apps may benefit from some compression, but movies, pictures and music do not.

Tv programmes upto 350mb = 5000000 (5mb Rars)
Tv programmes over 350mb = 10000000 (10mb Rars)
1cd/2cd avi/xvid/svcd = 15000000 (15mb Rars)
Any file(s) over 2.5gb = 50000000 (50mb Rars)

You dont need to follow this religously. Use common sense. Dont have hundreds of rars but dont have just a few either.

Now with that done the screen should look something like this:-

All you need to do now is click ok and winrar will start creating a split archive. This can take a few minutes depending on file size, speed of computer etc

Creating a recovery volume
Anybody thats used Usenet for awhile will know the importance of .par2 files. Anything you want to upload to usenet should always be accompanied with these marvelous little files. To do this launch the quickpar application then click the Add Files button at top tight of screen. Browse to the location fo your files, select all the required files then click ok. Your screen will look similar to this:-

1. Is the aforementioned Add files button
2. This slider can be adjusted to make more/less par2 files
3. This is the percentage of .par2 files you will create. 10% is the standard practise. You may want to go as far as 15% for very large files (4gb+)
4. How many complete files can be missing (min-max) and quickpar will still be able to repair. Not really that important tbh
5. How long approx it will take to create the .par2 files

Once thats set all you need to do is click create and the program will start creating the .par2 files

Setting up PowerPost
Ok so were nearly their. Before we actually start uploading we need to set up power post. You will only need to do this bit once. Launch the power-post program then press ctrl + p (or goto View menu then select program settings)

So following the above diagram:-

1. Self explanatory. You put your server address in and your user name and password. You also have an option to cap your upload speed but this isnt that imortant at this stage as you can do it on the fly when posting

2. Fill in this tab to your own requirements. DO NOT use your real email address unless you want spammed out of existence.

3. Not really important as you can select a group to post to just before you actual post the articles.

4. Set it up like i have and then leave alone lol (ok you can change the skin if u want lol)

Once thats done press ok. Now were almost ready to rock n roll

Posting

Ok so now its time to post. With power-post open press ctrl+q (or goto File menu and select Add files to queue). Browse to the where you have your files , select them all (including the .par2 files) and press Open

You will be presented with a new window with 5 tabs

1. If your file name is descriptive enough then you do not really need to add anything in the subject box - the only thing that is essential is the [$1/$2] - "$F" yEnc. You can enter anything you want before that though. This will show up in Supersearch etc aswell as the file name

2. This is where you add the group that you want to post the articles to. Id suggest for your first post alt.binaries.test. Click the Add group button and type in the required group. Once thats done put a tick in the box next to the group. Make sure that you spell everything correctly. Once you are used to posting then feel free to post to the relevant groups. Althought its possible its not advised to post an article to more than one group (ie by ticking more than one box)

3. File order is not really important but this can be sorted here. Its advisable to put the .nfo + any sample file first

4. Check the generate .sfv box and if you are going to upload an nzb to a listing site id sugest checking the .nzb box aswell. Ignore the other two boxes

Dont worry about the Tab i missed out, its not important. Now press OK and the articles will be queued for posting (might take a minute or so to appear)

You will now have a window something like this

All you need to do now is press ctrl+r (of goto File menu and select Start Posting!) and the files will start getting uploaded

This window will pop up:-

1. How long approx the upload will take
2. As mentioned before you can alter this number as you see fit to cap the upload speed. This is important if you want to surf etc at the same time.

*Note: I did very little editing. Credit goes to nozafc for this guide.
