Pyramids were built with concrete rather than rocks, scientists claim

How the Egyptians really built a Pyramid

The Ancient Egyptians built their great Pyramids by pouring concrete into blocks high on the site rather than hauling up giant stones, according to a new Franco-American study.

The research, by materials scientists from national institutions, adds fuel to a theory that the pharaohs’ craftsmen had enough skill and materials at hand to cast the two-tonne limestone blocks that dress the Cheops and other Pyramids.

Despite mounting support from scientists, Egyptologists have rejected the concrete claim, first made in the late 1970s by Joseph Davidovits, a French chemist.

The stones, say the historians and archeologists, were all carved from nearby quarries, heaved up huge ramps and set in place by armies of workers. Some dissenters say that levers or pulleys were used, even though the wheel had not been invented at that time.

Sounds strange..... it shouldn't be so hard to distinguish between solid rock and concrete. I mean the stuff is still there to analyse.

Exactly! Concrete and naturally occuring rock should be quite easy to identify and even an amatuer geoligist would be able to tell the difference between stone and concrete, even if the concrete made in ancient times was different to the stuff we build everything out of now.
But as for the pyramids I have read many different theories regarding who and why they were built. Everything from alien interaction with early humans to the pyramids being some type of advanced power plant. I remember reading something about the pyramids being the equivalent of some death star type super energy beam weapon. There are many theories but like a lot of theories you have to seperate the hay from the chaff.
Personally i'm at a loss to explain their construction and function.

"Some dissenters say that levers or pulleys were used, even though the wheel had not been invented at that time."

That's bullshit. Wheel was invented at least 1,000 (maybe 2,000) years before the pyramids were completed.

I guess what the article said is possible, but I'd withhold judgment til more was found out. I don't know if this cheapens the Great Pyramid as a incredibly impressive structure (most impressive ever probably IMO) but I would say it does not.

Here's a page that contends that the stones were machined:
