Hi! MadThumbs

You Wrote:
With ICH, you're looking at the value of the domain name, and the copy written articles. It doesn't matter whether an embedded video works or not regarding a hit to a page.

Yeh! That is exactly how I see it. The guy trips around Mouse Land and performs a copy/paste trip from sites/material he thinks members might enjoy.

I also agree that some of the embedded video @ICH are no longer active. But I was thinking more along the lines that 40% of any links or references to articles or commentaries are inactive. Only 60 or70% of articles are an exact copy-paste. It is that 30 or 40% of content has "expired" or is inaccessible.

I would think that if the ICH site contains 150 thousand links (to articles not videos), off the front page, 50 thousand of the link-clicks which are provided are actually "External" sources .... and the click takes you nowhere.

I'm quite familiar with the ICH content, because I read each and every article the site posts .... each and every day and for the past 4 years. It is because I have reviewed the ICH content for such a lengthy period of time, that I'm able to suggest that my database is 3 times as large as the ICH database. I probable read or review between 75 and 100 news-articles per day from many sources out there in Mouse Land, and which includes ICH.

Oh! the site has been around for awhile, and over the years, people have linked to an article at the ICH site. Thus; I quite agree that the "Name" is worth a few bucks.

However; if I opened up my forums tomorrow, and allowed the Google and MSN or Yahoo Crawler-Robot crusie my content, anybody performing a Google search would see my domain name pop-up as a reference.

Never mind whether people talk about the ICH site in other forums or link to articles hosted there .... it would be the "Google-Hit" that is worth the money .... I think more people would find the ICH site "Content" by performing a "KeyWord" search or utilizing any of the search engines or Robot-Grabs from Google, MSN or Yahoo and The Clowns.

It is the "search results" via search engines which advertises the ICH site and not so much word-of-mouth or links found within other forums or sites.

If I was to have 30% more "resources: then the ICH site presently has, my "content" or my forums would be poppin' up with Google searches just as frequently as the ICH does.

The real big difference between my database and the ICH database is that my content is contained in threads and not individual html pages.
(Any page can be saved or downloaded by anyone as an html page.) But, because I utilized a Forum format, A thread is sort of like adding to to an already existing html page, like having an update added to the original html page. A person need not "search" the site so frequently for other references or material relating to the story, because these were posted as a "Reply" in the thread.

I have 11 Forums ... thus my database or content is catalogued by or within 11 categories.

Catagorized as 45 Thousand Posts or 22 Thousand Threads:

3 Examples:

Category- "US News And Politics" (9 Child Forums or Sub-Directories)
- Current
- U.S. Financial
- God And American Politics
- U.S. Foreign Policy
- 9-11 Investigations And Reports
- U.S. Support For Israel
- Terrorism - The Patriot Act - Homeland Security
- Justice & The Courts
- Guantanamo

Category- "The War In Iraq" (8 Child Forums or Sub-Directories)
- Current Events
- Soldiers and The Military
- Iraqi Resistance - Insurgency
- Why Did The U.S. Invade?
- U.K. Involvement In Iraq
- Israel Involvement In Iraq
- What Does Sovereignty Mean?
- The Abu Ghraib Prison Scandal

Category- "International News" (116 Child Forums or Sub-Directories)
- A Child Forum for each Country outside North America.

I think that by utilizing a Forum format and thus categorizing the content within a "Forum" format or style, actually accentuates or enhances any "search" performed within the database. Searches would not necessarily need to be "Global" but rather a search in a particular category or child fourm. (Sub-Directory). A "search" performed at the ICH site (as an example) is actually a search of html pages. Each page being a different link .... whereas a forum template or format sort of gives you a single html page but with several up-dates or replies. (Additional "Related" resources.)

"Each "Reply" is just an addtion or an "update" to the original post or of contennt which deals with this particular topic."

I think this is a great bonus.

*** It sure saves having to link to different htlm pages individually as what happens at ICH. (A link for each story or commentary) When using a forum template or style, and to "Find" related information, all yuh need do is "Scroll" the Thread. ***

I have made some "design" or "catalogue" decisions which kind of haunt me now. I should of had a child forum for "U.S. Media" as an example. I just created a thread and kept adding "Replies" or with additional information, ..... I ended up with a thread which contained 400 "Reply" posts. In a sense, one large (and long) html page.

The same thing happened to other threads .... such as the one dealing with the AIPAC spy scandal in Washington. I just began a thread within the "U.S. Support For Israel" forum .... and the damn thread now has 400 posts. In a sense, that is a pretty long html page.

I should of had a separte Child Forum for each of the above mentioned Catagories. If I had it all to do over again, I would of made several design changes or Content-Catalogue changes. (I should of created a "US Media" forum and not just adding "Relies" to a thread.) Too late now!

You never really discuss advertising with me, eh?

I asked if people were expected to knock on your door asking you to host an advertisement or if you yourself need to chase each client down and offer to sell the advertiser space to place the advertisement.

Which is it?

And, would you mind using an example from some site other then here. Link me to it, so that I know what your talking about ... and then tell me how the site owner obtained the advertisement.

Just an example so I get the drift?

I don't think you're understanding things like Page Rank. Do a search for Alex Jones and ask yourself why his site would be at the top when there are many sites that discuss him. ICH probably has substantial page rank for most of it's pages.

No, links are what increases page rank. Without it, search engines will place your site at the end of search results which can span hundreds of pages. My guess is that search engines provide for about 3 percent of our hits.

If I didn't want discussion, and members posting, I would not use a forum. You can organize information well among web pages with topics, and anchors. People can also search relevant pages with ctrl+F. Take a look at totalitariantiptoe's articles for example.

How often would you read a non interactive 400 post thread full of complete articles? I think more people are reached with concise material.

I have. There's a communication barrier.

I just look for affiliate programs. There's not really any products that this site would do well enough with to hunt down a specific company for. I like Newshostings service, so I signed up to advertise for them.

I don't tend to bother others for information like that, so I wouldn't know.

So ... would you mind telling me or directing me to a source where I might learn what you know about it? Is there a book or a site which deals with these types of questions?

Is it considered to be "Trade Secrets? Confidential? None of my business?

How would I learn this "Advertising" without being "Nosey" ?

I'd like to host my forums or my database somewhere out there in Mouse Land and not have to pay anything. That the site would generate enough advertising revenues so as to pay for any of the costs.

That is why I'm asking yuh.

There must be lots of guys like me or with questions such as these, ..... so is there a site somewhere which might discuss this type of information?

I already directed you to the homepage. Here's a pic of what to look for:

Okay ...

I clicked and I ended up at "Image Shack" and I I have no idea why I ended up there.

I clicked the Opposing Digits link and viewed a page with a menu of sorts and specific links to specific resources or information. I guess I viewed your "Front" page, or "Index" of your site.

When I perform a search for something in Mouse Land, I use this program ...
http://www.copernic.com

So, I don't understand "Rankings" or whatever.

I thought the page turned up with my Copernic search program because the "Key Word" or "Exact Phrase" could be found on or at the links provided or generated by the Copernic search program.

What does "Ranking" have to do with my Copernic program search results?

I just asked the Copernic search engine to search Mouse Land for a Key-Word or a Phrase.

I just performed a search for my domain name. Copernic results were about 30. Most were references to fourms like these where I posted something and used my URL or linked to content on my server. I would say that the search results which Copernic gave me were about 100% correct. I don't think the Copernic search I performed missed any instance of where my domain name could be found out there in Mouse Land. I easily remember making the post where my domain name was referenced to during a conversation with a member in several forums or several sites I participate or am a member of.

What did "Ranking" have to do with how many times I found the name of my site being referenced or link to?

Let's say I opened my forums tomorrow and allowed Google Robots and The Clowns in my forums to crawl around and read/reference all the content within my forums.

Then .... if I performed a search for a phrase using my Copernic search program, would it find a reference to something at my forums or site?

I just performed a Copernic search for " OpposingDigits.com" and these
are the results .... What does "Ranking" have to do with these results?

Edit:

Search results found about 30 instances.

I removed the content in case you did not want all the information I found
all in one place. Better that I use "Information Clearing House" as an
example and not the address of this site. I don't want this conversation to
appear "personal"

Search results for ICH

What did Rankings have to do with how Copernic found these results?

What do you think about the "ShoutBox" trip?

If yuh scroll down to the near bottom of the page, you will see the "Shout-
Box" icon.
http://www.koevie.nl/board

I believe that this outfit sells them or whatever.
http://www.xtrato.net/product.php?productid=16139&cat=0&bestseller#

I think it is a pretty neat toy. Really adds to "Interactivity" which you
mentioned earlier.

I was wonderin' ....

Is it possible just to rent "space" on a hard drive at some hosting service?

It seems to me, as I understand it anyways, that you need to continue
doing work-arounds with your database in order for it to utilize the
database engine which your hosting company has already.

Is it just possible for me to rent "space" or just pretend that the "space" I
rent is just as though it was an external drive of sorts? Where I just
upload exactly what I have on my server right now and things would
begin humming?

About content ....

I keep harping on and on about content .... well, I think that if yuh got no
content .... yuh got nothing. It's all about content.

The "Fun" of having a site or a fourm is "Presentation". The most difficult
part was gathering the content.

We can have all the toys and all the flashing buttons we can handle ... but
in the end yuh gotta have content of some sort.

How any content is presented, is just a matter of different strokes for
different folks. Whether I present my content within a forum-style
presentation .... or whether I present it as individual html pages, .... is
neither here nor there.

It is rather a simple task to change "Presentation". Sometimes it can be
just with using a different skin or a different template for each html page.
But, it is the content which is found on the page that is really what
matters. It took alot of time and effort to collect the content.

If I decided to quit using the V-Bulletin database template and simply
chose a homepage with links to content on html pages like you have, it
just means changing code on all the html pages in one or two clicks.
Apply the find-and-replace trip by using a text-replace batch program.

Changing how I present my database is quite easy because the html
coding for each page within V-Bulletin are somewhat identical.

It's only a "Find and Replace" kind of task.

If I use a program such as Batch Text Replacer, it should be easy to alter
how the information is presented on an html page or template.
http://www.brinesoft.com/BatchTextReplacer.asp

When I talk about content, well, I've collected alot of stuff in the past 4
years. Not just copy/paste news stuff into a forum database, my storage amounts to over 2,000GB.

Collecting the content and creating the database was very hard and took
alot of time and effort.

I've given this "Search" and "Ranking" trip quite a bit of thought. I must
tell you that I still don't understand the concept.

As an example ....

My blog has always been open for public viewing, but not my forums.

Within my blog, I have text ....

I've been watching the U.S. election coverage. I sincerely believe

If I perform a seach on the net, and search for the above text, my blog
shows up as a source. I've never done any advertising or promotion at
all. So, what does ranking or whatever have to do with gaining a presence
on the net?

As an experiment, I'm gonna open my forums up for Google and The
Clowns to trip-in and steal everything I got. (None of the audio/visual
content will be available because I've removed it all from the server
during this experiment.)

Then I'm gonna perform a search for any "random" selection of text and
see if my forums show up in the search result.
