I think that religion encourages belief in the supernatural, because it aids in the belief of gods, spirits, angels, and other planes of existence. So the more that the supernatural is debunked, the less reason there is to believe in the same kind of nonsense in religion.

If one thinks that he or she can simply move an object by thinking it, that individual would be delusional. Modern physics doesn't support the idea of instant "miracles". It suggests that what are perceived as "miracles" happen over the course of time in slow but gradual stages (an evolutionary process taking place within the Quantum field in scales). Nothing of the sort comes easy; and to think otherwise as a vehicle to debunk it would be just as foolish as those trying to sell the idea.

Nothing's supernatural. The term "supernatural" is simply used to define that which yet cannot be explained. This is the great thing about modern physics (Quantum Mechanics) as it incorporates consciousness and its dynamics within the natural world. For example, QM physics being as respected as it is, does not debunk the Placebo Effect (which implies mind over matter taking place in small gradual scales). And the Placebo Effect is said to be a real phenomenon by the most widely read, highly cited peer reviewed neurology journal.

My father passed away just recently (2 months ago) from cancer of an unknown primary. He was a very religious man who often disagreed with me about my views on QM. He didn't understand my scientific approach to things and yet respected my differences. My mother tries her best to cheer herself up by attempting to believe there is more to life than the physical body. She cries everyday whenever her low moments come when realizing that her physical husband is no longer there to be by her side. I try to give her hope all the time that according to QM, matter isn't the ultimate building block and that Consciousness is.

I'm not religious but I can respect why some people in this stage in their lives often attempt to find peace in religion. I believe religion is just a tool like anything else. It's what we do with that tool that makes all the difference. To many people, it's "non-sense", while to many others, it's all they have. I believe true wisdom is to be found in balances. Extremism either way just brews closed-mindedness and arrogance.

I don't believe theism and atheism are the real problems (both are types of religions in my opinion). They're simply reflections (like all other things in life) of a much deeper mindset taking place within our Human psyche.

TTT My condolences for your father.

On the comment saying that atheism is a religion, thats complete bullshit, atheism is literally no theism or no religion... All atheists ask for is evidence, there are some who are retarded but most atheists simply ask for proof of gods that are claimed by theists to exist...

regardless not trying to turn this into a god debate or anything just want to clarify that...

I have the same opinion (I'm also non-religious). Religion doesn't have to be divisive and destructive, only if people want it to be.

Yep. Its what people do with them. I think attacking religions themselves is counterproductive, attacking the people who use them for division and destruction isn't. There is an organised campaign by certain groups such as "Humanist Societies" to try and move people away from Christianity in particular and alienate good-hearted religious people (even in my small town I've noticed) and no good will come of it...
