The reason garlic is so toxic, the sulphone hydroxyl ion penetrates the blood-brain barrier, just like DMSO, and is a specific poison for higher-life forms and brain cells. We discovered this, much to our horror, when I (Bob Beck, DSc) was the world's largest manufacturer of ethical EEG feedback equipment.
We'd have people come back from lunch that looked clinically dead on an encephalograph, which we used to calibrate their progress. "Well, what happened?" "Well, I went to an Italian restaurant and there was some garlic in my salad dressing!" So we had them sign things that they wouldn't touch garlic before classes or we were wasting their time, their money and my time.
I guess some of you who are pilots or have been in flight tests...I was in flight test engineering in Doc Hallan's group in the 1950's. The flight surgeon would come around every month and remind all of us: "Don't you dare touch any garlic 72 hours before you fly one of our airplanes, because it'll double or triple your reaction time. You're three times slower than you would be if you'd not had a few drops of garlic."
Well, we didn't know why for 20 years later, until I owned the Alpha-Metrics Corporation. We were building biofeed-back equipment and found out that garlic usually desynchronises your brain waves.
So I funded a study at Stanford and, sure enough, they found that it's a poison. You can rub a clove of garlic on your foot - a you can smell it shortly later on your wrists. So it penetrates the body. This is why DMSO smells a lot like garlic: that sulphone hydroxyl ion penetrates all the barriers including the corpus callosum in the brain.
Any of you who are organic gardeners know that if you don't want to use DDT, garlic will kill anything in the way of insects.
Now, most people have heard most of their lives garlic is good for you, and we put those people in the same class of ignorance as the mothers who at the turn of the century would buy morphine sulphate in the drugstore and give it to their babies to put'em to sleep.
If you have any patients who have low-grade headaches or attention deficit disorder, they can't quite focus on the computer in the after-noon, just do an experiment - you owe it to yourselves. Take these people off garlic and see how much better they get, very very shortly. And then let them eat a little garlic after about three weeks. They'll say "My God, I had no idea that this was the cause of our problems." And this includes the de-skunked garlic's, Kyolic, some of the other products.
Very unpopular, but I've got to tell you the truth.

My father used garlic oil to control heartburn. He took a lot of it. He was generally pretty healthy, but died suddenly. People suspect aneurism. I think he was getting slow in the head before he died. He was a voracious reader, and highly intelligent. He was also masonic scum, but still my loving dad.
I just listened to an mp3 last night about how a doctor doesn't eat anything that comes with a label. I guess she only eats out.

I guess we ought to read more information to confirm this...rather than a unnamed study, don't you think so?
I mean, I don't love garlic. But when I was a kid I used to get ear infections and garlic oil got rid of it. And if you eat some raw garlic when you get sick, you're pretty much better, like that.
Dang. Everything is in doubt.
MT, if I find out later that you're a liar, I'm coming after you. Watch out. 8)
well, i guess
there are some thiings certainly bad for all of us.
and other things (for example garlic, onions) everyone has to find out for themselves -
more individual?
for me garlic & onions are a part of my life
i love them!!!
especially onions - i eat tons of em.
is there any study?

I eat one onion every day, and I very rarely get colds or infections. Seems very effective.
Too much onions or garlic (like anything else) can cause serious problems however, e.g. excess heat in your body, blockages, wind, over-active digestion, etc.
This wont make me stop eating garlic and onion. Garlic and onion are great for your imune system, it works as an antioxidant, etc.
Im pretty sure it makes more good than harm. Like everything else, it's never to good with too much. Like with vitamins. They are good for you and you shouldnt lack any, but if you get too much of some of them they can lead to poison.
Garlic has been used in medicine for centuries!
Many women even use them to get rid of a YI.
I love them! Only bad thing is the smell. :/

Consuming more than five garlic cloves a day may cause flatulence, gastric distress, and heartburn.
Anti-Aging Prescriptions by James Duke PhD, page 149
Consumption of moderate quantities of garlic, even on a daily basis, should not pose any particular health risk for normal persons. The larger amounts apparently required for therapeutic utility (five or more cloves per day) can result in heartburn, flatulence, and related gastrointestinal problems.
The Honest Herbal by Varro E Tyler PhD, page 143
Consumed in large amounts, garlic can cause a variety of side effects, including heartburn, gas, skin irritation and, rarely, allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. If you experience garlic-induced discomfort, reduce the amount of garlic you're consuming, advises Dr. Pierson. Or try cooking fresh garlic instead of eating it raw.
Cholesterol Cures by William P Castelli MD, page 99
Too much garlic might give you heartburn, indigestion, or gas.
Eat and Heal by the Editors of FC&A Medical Publishing, page 176
Dishes seasoned with garlic, chilies, cayenne, or other hot spices can cause nagging heartburn or indigestion.
Food & Mood By Elizabeth Somer MA RD, page 225
Most people enjoy garlic; however, some individuals who are sensitive to it may experience heartburn and flatulence.

Just a thought, what if the dangers listed caused by Garlic is a reaction to the GMO's that those have digested? Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm no expert obviosuly =P
And thumbs, your dad was a Freemason? You're the third person I know who's relative was a Mason. I honestly don't know what to think about the Masons now, at first I read that they were abusing children to devil worshippers, then I hear that they believe in a supreme being and wish to exterminate Liberty (government), Right to private property, and Religion. Which I suppose makes a connection to the New World Order. With all the proof of Big Brother, the NWO seems like a thing of the past now.

MT mentioned that his dad was a Mason, and I just posted what was on my mind. I wasn't expecting a reply though, because Masons aren't the topic at hand. I know I included a ?, because like I said, he is the third person I know whose relative was a Mason. If it's a common thing, then so be it.
Now, back on topic. I asked if GMO's could possibly be responsible for "sulphone hydroxyl ion penetrates the blood-brain barrier, just like DMSO, and is a specific poison for higher-life forms and brain cells", seeing as almost all of us have some sort of artificial food additive in us. I think it was on Mercola.com I read that artificial additives like Aspartame, Sucralose, etc., don't get digested normally like natural food, because it is artificial, it's made in a lab, of course. It also stated that artificial additives aren't excreted normally, so in turn, the additives linger in the body for quite some time. I've had this thought for a while now that because artificial additives stay in the body longer than usual, I wonder if they were also made to harmfully react to a natural food like Garlic. It sounded crazy to me at first, but after reading about Aspartame and Sucralose, I wouldn't put the possibility past me.
Also, I should note that I myself don't use many cloves of Garlic in my food. On average, I'll have 2 cloves at the max every other day, sometimes I wait 2 or 3 days. Some good combinations for Garlic are Enchiladas, tacos del lengua, Miso soup, and top ramen with less juice. I may have some top ramen with garlic tonight. And I love the smell! Just not if I sweat if, of course.
