Silicon also appeared to cause food sensitivities. I noticed when I eliminated soy from my diet that my excruciating stomache aches subsided, and I was no longer sun-sensitive or rashy. Soy is in candies, breads, sauces, bedding, cosmetics (this makes sense why women are 9x more likely to have lupus if it's a co-factor explaining the butterfly rash), etc.
GERD
Not a "cure", but a remedy: Cayenne for heartburn! Instead of taking a prilosec everyday (nasty unhealthy stuff); I take a dose of cayenne 1-2 times a day.
*update* - I no longer have GERD. A slight change in diet along with using cayenne temporarily appears to have done the trick.
Changed: Store bought spring water to filtered tap water, no softdrinks (including coffee and tea), less processed foods, less gluten, less dairy. More: veggies, fresh fruits, nuts. NO: Drugs

I came across Elaine Gottshall's book. The Specific Carbohydrate Diet. I decided i was going to give it a serious try. I started it just as i was weening off prednisone at 2.5 mg every other day. This was two and a half months ago. Today, as I sit here, I have reduced my medication to 25 mg of Imuran and 2g of Pentasa.
I also ordered AMP molecure and started it almost one month ago. I feel extremely confident that I could just stop my medication tomorrow and continue with the diet and the AMP and i would be fine but I am taking the cautious route. THe key to using the AMP is that you have to have the Colitis under control so that the AMP stays in the large bowl as long as possible. I'm not saying to hold in your #$$@, but you need to be regular, once a day, maybe twice if you eat alot. Also I have now switched my food intake to 5-6 small meals a day instead of 3 bigs ones.
The main point of this message is to express my concern about the colitis medical community. I am digusted with the way doctors deal with these kind of intestinal problems, by masking symtoms with pills. How can they say that the cause and cure are not known! Clearly the cause of these disorders is directly related to eating habits. How can if possibly not be. THe reason that these so called doctors who are supposed to help us don't recommend the SCD or AMP is because they are funded by the pharmaceutical companies, they are paid to push products. Same with the Colitis FOundation, they are funded by the pharmaceutical companies. What the hell is going on here. I am furious about this. The cure for colitis and dieases alike is just one big money game. The answer is in diet and it is right in front of our faces.
The Specific Carbohydrate Diet is not an easy one to follow at first. If you are at all like me you like sweet stuff. I think everybody does at least once and a while. THere is no sweets allowed in this diet except honey. However, if you are really serious about getting rid of this diet you will follow it to a T. If you don't know what is in something then don't eat it.
Concluding, if you are like me and are sick of pills and side effects and want to get on with your life to do bigger and better things that start the diet. That's it.
Have a look around the site. As I said the diet is a hard one to start and follow. It is suggested that you follow it for a minimum of two years for colitis. However, now that i am on it i really enjoy it. It is a very nutritious diet and it will do a lot more for you than just cure your colitis. If you really don't want colitis than this is a must try. Make sure you give it a chance and I think the best time to start is at the end of a prednisone dosage or anytine you are in a bit of a remission. Then you aren't dealing with the blood, diarhea, so on and so forth. Start with a good foundation. It will work.

Excersized moderately - Walking is one of the most natural excersizes, I merely started a routine ~20 minute walk.
Got sun - Did my walking in the sunlight. -(I had to get over sun sensitivity first).
Lowered stress - This is part attitude!
Started drinking beer again (in moderation) - Not recommended for people with addictive personalities
Quit caffeine and started water therapy - NO softdrinks!

I lived with the depression my whole life as well. I got cured by thinking long and hard about what would cause me to get depressed, tracing back my childhood till i came to terms with the things that depressed me. I also stopped doing things that would get me depressed. I would do things out of the ordinary to break up my mind patterns. Eating healthy and exercise really help to get rid of depression.
Madthumbs i think drinking helps in releiving depressing because it puts you in a more relaxed state of mind, where you dont care about peoples opinions and you just are free. They next step is to learn to be that way without the drink. A scientific study was done where they gave a half a group beer and the other half a placebo (non alcoholic beer, without them knowing it was non alcoholic) the results where that both groups acted as if they were drinking alcohol. Proving that you dont need acohol to loosen up. Sometimes we drink just to have an excuse for being ourselves, that way we can always blame it on the beer.
My girlfriend had twice very bad Urinary Tract Disease - very common problem of women.
She was peeing blood.
After she went to doctors and ran through all stupid antibiotics procedure, which of course did not help, i searched the internet and to my amazement i found a natural sugar called D-Mannose which helps in 100% causes when the disease is caused by bacteria E.Coli.
E.Coli is in 90% responsible for UTI's.

I've had a big lump on my back for about 5 years now. I've also recently noticed lumps and disfigurement (when erect) in my penis. Just recently I've started making a strong effort to eat more seeds. I've been eating apricots with the seeds, flax seeds, figs (chewing the seeds), sesames, raw hulled barley, raw nuts, etc. The lump on my back, and elsewhere are almost gone in about half a week. It's my guess that the lumps are cancer and that amygdalin found in seeds is indeed effective.

I know this might sound a bit odd, but eating the seeds of fruits can help your digestive system work more efficent . Like watermelon and apple seeds. Not to much though, becouse they ca be toxic in high doses. I read this in THE NEW AGE Herbalist By Richard Mabey. Its a book I'm reading for school.

I used St,Johns wort, gingo biloba and valarian when I was 16 for depression. This was after a tragic accident.It helped me to work though my situation rather than cover it up. I did try a number of prescription meds and they have always seemed to affect me in a bad way...I tried different ones for almost 4 years. I personally have never reacted well to prescriptions witch is probably why I droped out of nursing school. I still have to say I know somtimes we need medical doctors, but I say get the best of both worlds.
I have also helped my self with ADD. There are a nubker of good things to do for that. a good book I found back in 1996 was The A.D.D. amd A.D.H.D. DIET by Rachcel Bell and Dr. Howard Peiper
I do believe in canabis In total moderation for those of use that it does work for. That is not everyone. If you have to use it everyday, I feel you stop use entierly. Is just like the alcoholic...if you have to use it everyday, you should step out side your box and look at some other options

its been a couple month since that post, have the lumps gone away? And your pretty sure it was just eating the raw nuts and seeds that helped? Sound good... let me know how you've made out.

Niacin capsules have effectively helped me to be more alert. Also, instead of eating meat, I have found that eating nuts and beans is easier on the digestive system. In order to combat most ailments, I brew my own herbal remedy. It is especially handy when cold season comes around. You can try this too, It's not very tasty but it does help. destilled water, zinc, lime juice or any source of vitamin C, garlic, honey, vinegar, vitamin b-12, goldenseal root extract, St. John's wort. Just put all ingredients in a pot, boil it, and drink. Another thing I have tested, I forgot where I read this but apperantly, it has been proven that ginger root kills ovarian cancer cells. I believe it really works. Since I started ingesting slices of ginger root, the pain in my lower abdominopelvic cavity has subsided. (I have reproductive health problems that could be due to occupational factors.) I avoid foods that contain red dye #40, silica, aspartame(this chemical sweetener should be taken off the market.), I will not drink the tap water, or floidated drinking water. I will not eat margarine, I've always thought it was worse for humans than real butter and recent studies now prove it's true. I have quit eating fast food and drinking beer and as a result, I lost about 10 lbs. My stomach is flat now that I don't drink beer. (no more pot belly) After changing my diet I can honestly say, I saw fast results. I notice my skin is a nice even tone, I have to wear a belt when I put on pants that used to fit my waist, I have more energy. Now if I could just quit these damn cigarettes! If you have any quit smoking tips, please share them. I have tried almost everything except the anti-smoking pills (I'm leary about these new pills they keep putting on the market)
Simple breathing excercises will make you get rid of asthma steroids.
Living in nyc I can certainly add something to this. I had chronic asthma and bronchitisas a child
but it became better because of swimming I think. It seemed to get rid of breathing problems
because it is an exercise that requires one to use disciplined breathing (when done right).
Now if we can be like benjamin and live in germany where they have ozone pools instead of chlorine
we can finally have the benefit of swimming in the winter without inhaling a toxic gas.
